Abstract
Objective: This study aims to analyze pharmaceutical logistics systems, particularly comparing direct dispensing (DD) and dispensing on commission (DPC), and to evaluate the role of automated drug dispensing systems (ADDS) in improving efficiency, patient safety, and governance within healthcare systems, with a focus on Azerbaijan. Methods: The research employs a secondary data analysis approach, utilizing industry reports, academic literature, and healthcare statistics. Comparative analysis is conducted between different dispensing models, while statistical data on pharmaceutical markets, consumption patterns, and distribution channels are examined to assess system performance and technological integration. Findings: The findings indicate that automated drug dispensing systems significantly reduce medication errors, improve inventory management, and enhance operational efficiency. Direct dispensing models offer better therapeutic control and cost efficiency compared to traditional systems. In Azerbaijan, pharmaceutical consumption has increased, highlighting the need for more efficient logistics systems. Automation also improves coordination among stakeholders and ensures timely delivery of medications. Conclusion: The integration of ADDS and optimized logistics models enhances healthcare system performance by improving safety, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency. Adoption of computerized and automated systems is essential for modern healthcare systems, especially in managing growing pharmaceutical demand. Future development should focus on system integration, staff training, and long-term sustainability.
